7 types of windows that you can choose for you home

1. Casement windows

These are the traditional type of window styles commonly used in Bangalore for ages. These types of windows are majorly made of wooden frames (Vaskal) and wooden shutters with glass.  These windows open inwards or outwards with the help of crank mechanism (hinges). They give an extraordinary look when it comes to architectural point of view. Though they are majorly made of wood in Bangalore other materials can also be used such as Aluminium, uPVC, Steel, Vinyl etc. They are easy to use and they provide incredible ventilation as their shutters can be fully opened to allow fresh air to flow in and circulate your home. One of the few drawbacks of these windows is they are prone to expansion during summer and contract during winter days.

2. Sliding windows

These are the most trending type of windows during recent times. Their use is increasing drastically everywhere. Sliding windows are budget friendly, very easy to maintain and they weigh light too, so they are easy to install and are available in various sizes. They come in different variety of materials like Aluminium, uPVC, Wood, and steel depending on the interior and exterior designs. These windows have sashes that slide horizontally to open and close. The import feature bout them are they are space savers as they only operate sidewise and don’t open inwards nor outwards like casement windows. Sliding windows made of Aluminium and uPVC are widely used in the construction market compared to other available materials. There are a very good option is space is limited.

3. Louvered windows

Louvered windows are also known as jalousie or simply jalies. These are traditional Indian windows with horizontal slats that can be adjusted to open and close. These slats are commonly made of glass and are also available in wood. These slats are easy to replace when broken, Louvered windows are available in all sizes to suit your particular needs. They allow air to slide in when opened and are easy to maintain. They are widely used in bathrooms as they can be adjusted to control ventilation and privacy. Louvered windows made of Aluminium and uPVC are popularly used in constructing industry lately.

4. Awning windows

Awning windows open upwards unlike other windows mentioned above. They have hinges on top which allow them to open outwards from the bottom. They offer better ventilation than sliding and casement windows because they open fully, these windows are usually designed in rectangular shape in which the width is more than its height. They are ideal for rainy and high wind locations as they protect storm water entering inside without disturbing the ventilation. They are available in aluminium, wood, steel, fiberglass and combination of two materials, among which aluminum is quite popular being light weight, durable and cost effective.

5. Fixed windows

Fixed or stationary windows permit light and restrict ventilation. They are static windows which pave a path for natural light to enter inside the house and for aesthetic views. Fixed windows do not have any hinges, handles or any other fixtures unlike other windows, they are usually designed and placed alongside opeanable Doors and windows. They are available in variety of shapes and sizes to suit your architectural needs. They are made of Wood, Aluminium, uPVC, vinyl, fiberglass, etc. among which wood and aluminum are popular.

6. Bay windows

Bay windows are being used since historic times. They are also called by the name Oriel windows. These windows allow more natural light and ventilation to enter inside your home than traditional windows. Bay windows protrude outwards from the exterior walls and are supported by corbels which give an unique touch of elegance and aesthetics to your elevation. They also form a bay inside the room which can be designed to set up a small seating area to relax and enjoy the view outside. Bay windows are widely made of wood since olden ages, they are also available in uPVC and aluminium. These windows are more expensive compared to traditional windows.

7. Combination windows

As the name says combination windows combine two or more different types of windows, such as traditional windows and a fixed window or fixed and awning windows. Their combination is decided based on the design requirements to suit the architectural interiors and exteriors. They are a unique type of window that offers good light and ventilation when designed perfectly. These windows are suitable for any weather conditions for instance let’s say we have a combination of traditional and awing windows, during rainy season traditional windows can be closed as they allow storm water inside meanwhile awning windows can be left open for ventilation.

The above windows are widely used almost everywhere in the world. Choose the right one to fulfill your specific needs and style.
